Dr. Jonathan B. Rubenstein is a board-certified and fellowship trained ophthalmologist specializing in refractive and cataract surgeries, corneal transplants, anterior segment reconstruction, and external disease in Chicago.

Jonathan B. Rubenstein, M.D., is the Deutsch Family Professor and Chairman of the Department of Ophthalmology at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago.  He is also the Director of Refractive Surgery at Rush.

Dr. Rubenstein received his undergraduate degree in biology with honors from the University of Rochester and his medical degree with honors and was elected AOA at Rush Medical College. He completed an ophthalmology residency at Rush University Medical Center, where he served as chief resident, and completed a fellowship in cornea/external disease/refractive surgery in the Department of Ophthalmology at the University of Minnesota, where he was awarded the Outstanding Teacher Award.

Dr. Rubenstein is a past President of the Chicago Ophthalmological Society. He is a past member of the board of trustees and the committee of secretaries for the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO) where he was the senior secretary in charge of the AAO’s annual meeting. He is the Chairman of the Skills Transfer Clinical Committee, a member of the Cataract Clinical Committee and an editor for Eye World for the American Society for Cataract and Refractive Surgery (ASCRS) and is a member of the Association for Research in Vision and Ophthalmology and the Refractive Surgery Interest Group of the AAO.

Dr. Rubenstein is a recognized instructor of multiple refractive surgery, cataract and corneal surgical techniques. He is an active teacher in courses at ASCRS and the American Academy of Ophthalmology meetings and has received the American Academy of Ophthalmology’s Honor Award, Senior Honor Award, Lifetime Achievement Award and Secretariat Award. He is a regular examiner for the American Board of Ophthalmology and is a frequently invited lecturer and the author of numerous research articles and book chapters. He is on the board of the Illinois Society for the Prevention of Blindness and was selected as one of Chicago’s top 500 doctors by Chicago Magazine.
